I for sure am not a fan of BBQ, but I have to say it was some of the best I have tried. The meat (chicken and beef) was cooked just right with the ideal amount of seasoning. The meat was moist and tender, the sauce was out of this world! For a side I would for sure recommend the sweet potatoes it's like thanksgiving. For a small little town they cook up some great BBQ.

Awesome place. Great atmosphere. My friend had the prime rib. (It was Friday) Other friend had a regular steak and I had the 2-meat combo of pork and chicken. Finger lickin' good.

6 of our barrelracin gang in this afternoon and all had great chow and service to match. Couple had burrito including myself. Beautiful and really good. Others had bbq variety and everything just right. Maybe better than past times here.

I am a McCook native and returned after being away for 25 years. The ambiance is a bit reminiscent of the lobby at a small Cabelas. Lots of taxidermy, but it didn't bother me. Staff was friendly and greeted us immediately. Our server talked up the ribs. I ordered a half rack with a side of okra and coleslaw. I was with 2 other people and we all ordered ribs. I have to say the ribs smelled like they sat in a smoker. They smelled great. However, as I dug into my ribs they were hard as a rock. I tried to use a knife to separate the meat from the bone and was unsuccessful. One of the guests I was dining with was only able to pull a little meat off of her rack of ribs. Most of hers was untouchable because she couldn't get the meat off the bone. I am no chef but I think after smoking the ribs they need to slow roast them for 4 hours or stick them in a pressure cooker to soften them up. I have eaten BBQ ribs all over from Kansas City to Hawaii and have never had such tough ribs. I mean the flavor was great but sadly I couldn't get to the meat because it was just far too tough. I hope this review helps the chefs. This place has a lot of potential, but the ribs have got to be falling off the bone. I don't think I will eat here again until this is resolved. **** UPDATE**** We had a little more than a full rack of smoked ribs left over from our meals that we couldn't eat because it was way too tough. I brought it to my parents house where we put the rack of ribs in a pressure cooker for a little over a half hour with barbecue sauce and a little water. It fell off the bone. Maybe this is what the cooks at the Taste of Texas need to do in order to get them to be more palatable.

It smells great in here. The Chicken Fried Steak was fantastic and this is an excellent choice for BBQ too. If you are in McCook this would be a good choice! We travel a lot by motorcycle and this is the kind of place I consider to be classic road food. You too can choose to skip the golden arches and go to a place with real food like this.

Very good food. I've had the ribs, steaks, prime rib, fried okra, mashed potatoes, baked beans. Everything's always yummy. The atmosphere is nice. It is a bit pricey but it's not bad for a sit down restaurant in this tiny town.

Located in the west part of McCook NE right by the John Deere dealership. More like a 3.5 star experience, but still pretty good in my opinion. I had the Texas style chicken fried steak, my dad had the 2 meat plate with hot links and ribs, and our friend had the pulled pork sandwich. We all enjoyed our meals and the service was good, but the food wasn't amazing. The chicken fried steak was a good size and the gravy was warm and flavorful, but the mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes, not awesome. My dad said the hot link was good, but was spicy and after the first one he decided he didn't want the spicy heat anymore. He said the ribs were ok, a little chewy, but the sauce was pretty tasty. Our buddy said the pulled pork sandwich (and side salad) were both very good and hit the spot. Bill was a little over $30 which is pretty decent for 3 people at a restaurant. Very average experience with solid food for the price. I would come back here and try something else. The staff was friendly and restaurant is clean and well spaced out with plenty of tables. Solid 3 stars. A-OK

Hickory smoked, tender, not smothered in sauce. Smoke ring on the meat. The restaurant is clean and good sized. Nice bar area, plenty of room for bigger parties. The salad was basic but good and fresh. I got the three meat plate with brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. I loved them all. They don't have the moist option for brisket (cut from fatty side) like they do in New York City, but it was still really good. Tender and flavorful. I can't wait to come back and try out the steaks! Waite staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the owner was talkative and helpful as well. I walked there from the Holiday Inn Express, it's a short walk and well worth it. I look forward to coming back. If your wondering around lost in Nebraska, and end up in McCook, this is the place to eat!!!
